The Circle G Motel in Okemah, Oklahoma

While on my 3 hour trek to Tahlequah, Oklahoma I drove through Okemah, Oklahoma. It was a small little town. Not "Earlsboro small" but small none the less. It has a population of around 3,000. A little under 3% of the total population of Norman, Oklahoma. Just to kind of put it into perspective.

While driving down highway 62 I stumbled across a few cool little gems. An old Ford truck and a little barn. But the thing that really caught my eye was the Circle G Motel. I saw the sign from a distance and I new I had to stop immediately.

I pulled into the driveway and pulled out my camera. I stepped out of my trusty old Subaru and started making my way to the sign. The sun was brutal, there wasn't a cloud in the sky, and the shadows being cast were irritatingly difficult to work with.

I walked up to the motel. It was dilapidated and had certainly seen better days. Siding was peeling, paint was faded, trash and broken bricks were strewn about. Looked like possible water or fire damage on some spots. Not exactly the kind of motel I'd pay to lay my ginger head for the night.

There was an old school phone booth that was sadly missing the actual phone. I looked at it and just pictured a stormy Oklahoma night. Rain pouring down but a husband, tired from a day's worth of driving, is standing there with his long coat and hat dripping water as he talks to his wife and kids on the other line.

From what I've read the place was a nice establishment in its past. I sure would loved to have seen it then. I guess I'll just have to picture that in my mind as well.
